Grieg

Norway
Although it is not a musical "superpower", Norway gained its uniqueness in the world of symphonic music thanks to its national composer - Grieg1st movement from the Piano Concerto in Am - Grieg. Grieg saw it as his obligation to incorporate Norwegian folk music in his composition, in order to face up to the Danish cultural influence of his days. He arranged many of the popular songs and dances, and combined tunes in his people's spirit's in his works. A very good example of this deployment is his suite "Peer-Gynt"'In the Hall of the Mountian King' from 'Peer Gynt' Suite No.1, Op.46 - Grieg - a series of short movements written for a play by the famous dramatist Ibsen. "Norwegian country dances" are also clearly among the most famous national pieces Grieg wrote for piano.
It is no coincidence, that Grieg, who made Norwegian folk music world famous, became a national hero in his life, yet after his death Norway returned to its anonymity, to a great extent.
